Leon called me yesterday and said:
– We urgently need a short article, you should write about our magazine’s cool design. After all, are you our Art Director? … Wow and Oops…
… Honestly, it’s inappropriate for an author to write and, especially, to boast about own creative work. I’d rather talk about how we came up with an idea for our magazine.
More than a year ago during our conversation, Leon told me about his problem with some publishers. It turns out that the placement of the author’s article in a specialized edition costs tons of dollars. Leon has a lot of interesting articles on yoga and acupuncture, and this is in addition to his books on yoga and spiritual development.
Having quite a lot of experience with startups in Mass Media and Publishing areas (7 magazines and newspapers in Ukraine) I said:
– Do you remember the main Law of the Universe? “If you need something, you do it”… The best way to place your article in an American publishing house – make the magazine yourself! And it can be a great place to share your experiences and thoughts, as well as for your friends and colleagues, specialists in acupuncture, massage, Reiki, natural nutrition, and in general – a healthy lifestyle.
Furthermore. You can even create your own publishing house. And a website, with a mobile app, and of course – publish on Amazon.
We began to discuss the business model of the publication. There were many questions (and they all are paramount and there are no trifles here!): suitable printing house, estimated circulation, numerous legal copyright issues and so on.
And last but not least — CONTENT. Structure, themes, interesting authors, high-level specialists.
And YES! Title. We studied analogs, went through dozens of options. At first, it all came down to a certain monstrous Future-Modern-Classic-Green-Yoga-Way-Of-Life with variations. In the end we stopped at that title. Which you see on the cover.
As a result, we came to understanding that this should be a magazine-almanac, with flexible volume, floating circulation, with an online electronic version and modern design.
And the most important thing in this business model: All authors, in addition to 3-5 copies that they get for free, can order and receive (for promotional purposes) any number of hard copies at the price of the printing house. Yes, we are doing an almost altruistic publication.
… Since that time, a year has passed.
Today we have the third issue of our Magazine-Almanac, new interesting authors have appeared, the magazine can be bought on Amazon Kindle store (https://acuyogareiki.com/online-magazine/amazon-kindle-store), read on our website (https://acuyogareiki.com). We greatly expanded subjects, interesting and useful articles have appeared not only for professionals but also for the general public.
