Ron and Chelsea Villegas – NJ artists
Have you ever wondered if creativity runs in the family? This certainly seems to be the case with NJ artists Ron and Chelsea Villegas. Their familial artistic lineage started with Ron’s father who was a professional photographer in NYC. The photographic eye was passed down to Ron who worked primarily with film for years but greatly expanded his technique and output with his first digital cameras. Portraits are one of his specialties and he has a knack for capturing beautiful and poignant candid moments. He loves to travel and always brings back striking images from his adventures. Ron is also a musician and that passion carries over to the subject matter of many of his photos as well.
About Chelsea Villegas
The constant presence of art and music in the Villegas home had a profound impact on Chelsea who was always a creative child interested in many different mediums. She took a number of photography classes over the years and ended up focusing on painting in college. After graduation she delved into encaustic painting with a library book as her guide. Encaustic is an ancient Egyptian technique that involves painting with molten wax. Chelsea is a true mixed media artist who incorporates many different mediums with encaustic from oil paint, pastels, drawing, and collage, to photo transfers and fabric. The influence of photography is a thread through all of Chelsea’s work as well. She has amassed thousands of reference photos from her travels and time spent in nature and uses them either as a starting point for her paintings or incorporates them through image transfers. Chelsea is a mother in addition to being an artist and has devoted a great deal of time to instilling the value of creativity and self expression in her two children over many years of homeschooling.
